The Toyota GR86 GT300 has been revealed in January 2022 at Tokyo Auto Salon, serving as a replacement for team äpr’s #31 Prius PHV GT300.

Powered by the same engine from the Lexus RC F GT3 and the Prius PHV GT300 (although this time naturally aspirated), the engine is an 5.4L V8 known as the 2UR-G, equipped the same Hewland 6-speed transmission.

As expected, the GR86 GT300 is shorter and significantly more agile than its predecessor, the Prius PHV. Obviously lighter, the car does not have any problems at previously problematic tracks like Okayama. As Manabu ‘Max’ Orido said, the GR86 GT300 is a “cornering machine”, although it is not the fastest on straights that can cause problems on long straights among big groups of other cars.

Even though the car is exclusive to Super GT, the frame and the rollcage has been officially approved by the FIA. Only sharing the A-pillar, the B-pillar, and the top with the production version, the car has been built in house by äpr Racing Constructor.

The GR86 has been racing together with both the Prius PHV and the LC500h GT300, it will retain its position as the secondary äpr entry in 2025. Shade Racing and Muta Racing Inging (Now known as HYPER WATER Racing) is also competing with this car, making it a popular choice among Super GT entries next to the Supra GT300, mutually built by äpr.

During its more than 3 years of competing, the car has been undergoing several changes, including different aero, wheels, tires and cosmetic changes. The perfect all-rounder of the GT300 category. The mod is mainly based on the the 2024 äpr version.
